Addiction to Benzodiazepines can be severe as addiction to Heroin or Alcohol. This program addresses the problem of severe addiction such as to Oxazepam and Alprazolam.
There are two jobs to be done in order to succeed with Benzo detox:
1) Treat the Benzo withdrawal suffering
2) Treat the Underlying Mental Health Disorders which caused the Benzo abuse in the first place, e.g. severe Sleep Disorders, severe Anxiety Disorders, Bipolar Disorder, severe ADD, severe Post Trauma Disorders etc.
The most common method of Detoxing from Benzos is to take Diazepam, then slowly wean off the Benzo you are addicted to and then slowly wean off the Diazepam. If you try to do this too quickly you are likely to relapse, there is a small risk of having convulsions and a substantial risk that you will switch to another addictive "downer" such as Alcohol, Marijuana or even Heroin.
A safer surer method is as follows:
- Take Diazepam, a Major Tranquilizers and an Anticonvulsant Mood Stabilizer all together;
- then slowly wean off the Benzo you are addicted to;
- then get your Underlying Mental Health issues more clearly defined and have them more specifically treated.
- You will need an experienced supportive Doctor and an experienced supportive Psychologist or Counselor.
Start with low doses of the following medications and build up to the doses suggested below as needed and tolerated.
