Issue with bacterial/fungal infection

Had an infection on my skin that after a culture test it was determined it was fungal/bacterial for the infection I got a cream Mupirocin. After the 2nd day I begin getting heavy anxiety the treatment is for 7 days and likely will need to take antifugals. Very worried and my symptoms are bad. No sleep heavy anxiety dread intrusive thoughts. Can someone talk out there ?

@Cesar, I'm sorry you are having these symptoms. I am not doctor but I did a quick search on Mupirocin and side effects but anxiety is not listed as a possible side effect with only severe dizziness as a serious side effect that might be related to brain function. Are you on other medications? Or is it possible the fungal/bacterial infection is what is causing these symptoms? Have you done research into the infection itself?

Hey Alex thanks buddy. Not yet as dr still hasn’t gotten the results of the culture test back so I don’t know what bacteria im dealing with. I’m just afraid I may need oral antibiotics. I know not to take fqs for sure. But just nervous about that as I have been fq injured before. And afraid of all antibiotics after that experience to be honest.

Sorry Cesar, I forgot to come back to here. I’m 55 and took antibiotics, oral and injection, for about 5-6 years when I was a child due to getting bronchitis every year. I was sickly little boy. Throughout my adult life I’ve had to take them as well maybe about 10 times. None of them I don’t believe were of the fluoroquinolone type though. But I hear you about your concern. But I am seeing someone suggesting you talk to your dr about using older antibiotics or something lighter. I think that’s good advice. I hope your anxiety has abated at least a bit.

Hey @Cesar, quick question as this was not clear to me. Are you taking benzodiazepines? This is maybe why you posted but due to my ignorance I didn’t put two and two together. I just started to read the Ashton Manual (for benzodiazepine withdrawal) and right away it says that if you are taking benzodiazepines, that taking antibiotics and quinolones specifically, that it might cause you to go into benzo withdrawal symptoms because quinolones “displace benzodiazepines from their binding sites on GABA-receptors.” I just thought I’d mention this.

@Alex Serrano yes I’m in kpin 2mg but I haven’t taken and fqs. Just cream Mupirocin. Haven’t tapered it yet

Can someone talk out Could you possibly get a diffrent med maybe ask Roseland or David you may be having a reaction to it and need to switch have you looked up your medicine and the one your tapering to see the possible interactions just a thought .

Hi Cesar, So just to make sure i got it right; you're only doing mupirocin cream for the infection? it is 

 

If yes, let me tell you that there's no chance it could affect your withdrawal.

 

I am actually under baterial infection. I have already used clotrimazol and miconazol (both antifungal creams) and it got better but it didnt eliminate the infection so after a couple of months of failed treatment (diagnosed by 2 different doctors) i got a culture done and it was bacterial infection on the skin so i was told to take the worng treatment.

 

After i got the culture results i used a fusidic acid (antibiotic) cream round and again it got better but didnt eliminate it so it came back, then i did a mupurocin (antibiotic) cream round with the same results. In my culture results it showed that this bacteria was killed by both antibiotics but it wasnt.

 

I tried to find another dermatologist but couldnt get an appointment before end of the year. currently using miconazol wich is an antifungal but it is supposed to kill the gran positive bateria to try to avoid the infection to get worse till i see the dermatologist. Everytime i stopped using any cream, after 3 or 4 days it got so much worse.

 

I didn't get any reactions to any of the many rounds of antifungal and antibiotic i used so far. As long as you dont take any oral meds you're gonna be safe. The anxiety reaction you had could perfectly be cause by your concern or fear of what is happening, believe me cause i got so angry when the creams didnt work that i cause myself an anxiety rush due to the anger i felt.
