WebDevElijah Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 ANDREA'S STORY: I want to share my story about how I successfully tapered off Valium after being on it for over 15 years. My highest dose was 45 mg daily, prescribed for anxiety and insomnia. For years, I felt stuck, dependent on Valium, and every time I tried to taper off, I failed. Each time, I reduced my dose too quickly, and the symptoms were overwhelming. I always ended up reinstating. That all changed when I decided to do a slow liquid micro-taper. It took me 2.5 years to finish, but it was the best decision I ever made. I worked closely with my doctor to develop a liquid micro-taper plan. Using a syringe and a diluted liquid form of Valium, I reduced my dose by tiny increments—sometimes as little as .05 ml at a time but reduced about 1 ml everyday. I made smaller reductions depending on how I felt. This gradual approach gave my body time to adjust to each drop before moving to the next. The process was long, but for the first time, I wasn’t battling intense symptoms or failing my taper. I stayed consistent and patient, and it worked. My Symptoms: Mild and Manageable Compared to my previous attempts, this taper was a completely different experience. My symptoms were so mild that they never interfered with my daily life. Here’s what I noticed: Mild Restlessness: There were moments when I felt slightly restless, but walking or stretching helped. Occasional Sleep Disruption: I had a few nights where I struggled to fall asleep, but guided meditations and a calming bedtime routine helped me get through them. Light Fatigue: Some days, I felt a bit tired, but staying hydrated and eating balanced meals kept my energy up. Slight Mood Swings: I occasionally felt irritable or down, but journaling and talking to my support system helped. Minimal Physical Symptoms: I had minor headaches or muscle twitches now and then, but they were fleeting and manageable. By going slow, I avoided the overwhelming symptoms I had faced during faster tapers. Why a Slow Micro-Taper Worked The slow liquid micro-taper approach was truly life-changing for me. Here’s why it worked so well: Gradual Reductions: The tiny dose cuts meant my body barely noticed the changes. This kept withdrawal symptoms to a minimum. Consistency Over Speed: Instead of rushing, I focused on making steady progress. I didn’t care how long it took—success was more important than speed. Fewer Setbacks: By going slow, I avoided the intense withdrawal symptoms that had caused me to fail in the past. This kept me motivated to continue. Emotional Resilience: A slow taper gave me the emotional space to focus on my mental health. I practiced mindfulness, therapy, and self-care throughout the journey. Support System: I leaned on my family, online support groups, and my doctor for encouragement and advice. Life After Valium After 2.5 years, I took my final dose. I couldn’t believe I had done it. The journey was long, but I’m so glad I took my time. Today, I feel free—free from dependence, free from the anxiety of withdrawal, and free to live my life. I manage my anxiety with mindfulness, exercise, and therapy. I’ve rebuilt my confidence, and I no longer feel like a prisoner to medication. If you’re struggling to taper, I want you to know that a slow micro-taper is worth it. It was the only way I could succeed after so many failed attempts. Go at your own pace, listen to your body, and don’t rush. Healing takes time, but with patience and persistence, it’s possible. If I can do it after 15 years on Valium, so can you. You’ve got this! Lastly, micro-tapering slowly DOES work!! Keep strong Love Andrea 2 1 Click Here to Learn about my story Current Medications: Valium: Started around 35mg and have tapered over 3 years down to 6.8mg.
