Toby Posted January 5 Posted January 5 Has anyone here experienced esophageal spasms? These are so painful and come at night like clock work. It feels like it’s being squeezed so hard. someone told me the symptoms I experience while tapering will likely look like what I experience post taper. Im not 100 % it’s the esophagus but it feels like it is Quote Clonopin 4 mg for 5 years. Started a dry cut taper method down to .40 mg 12/17/24 started liquid micro taper. Currently no other medications
WebDevElijah Posted January 5 Posted January 5 @Toby Esophageal spasms can definitely be a part of benzo withdrawal or tapering, though it’s not something everyone experiences. It makes sense that they’re happening at night since withdrawal symptoms often flare up during periods of rest or inactivity. The intense squeezing sensation could also be related to the vagus nerve, which can be affected during withdrawal, leading to gastrointestinal or esophageal discomfort. That being said, while symptoms during tapering can sometimes mimic what you might feel post-taper, it’s not a guarantee. Many people find their symptoms subside or change significantly once they’re fully off and healing progresses. You might also want to check with a doctor to rule out other potential causes, just to be safe. Hang in there—you’re not alone! 1 Quote Click Here to Learn about my story Current Medications: Valium: Started around 35mg and have tapered over 3 years down to 6.8mg. If that’s not a mistake, can I drink valerian root tea ? Quote Clonopin 4 mg for 5 years. Started a dry cut taper method down to .40 mg 12/17/24 started liquid micro taper. WebDevElijah Posted January 5 Posted January 5 @Toby Yes I am still taking Ambien. I am tapering only one medication at a time. I personally would not take Valerian but that is something you need to decide. 1 Quote Click Here to Learn about my story Current Medications: Valium: Started around 35mg and have tapered over 3 years down to 6.8mg.
